Editorial Review

Reviewed in the Oct/Nov '07 issue of Ciao!

From Argentina to Venezuela, the empanada is a traditional Latin American street food eaten as a snack at festivals, a starter at gatherings or an everyday meal on the go. It’s a half moon-shaped pastry served baked or fried, bursting with savoury or sweet fillings that vary depending on the country. Simon’s Cuisine is a small, take-out joint hidden along busy St. Mary’s Road that prepares homemade Argentinian food. Their baked empanadas are full of Argentinian flavours with stuffing choices of spicy or regular beef, chicken, tuna, ham, egg, spinach and ricotta or try the humita—a warm blend of sweet grated corn, veggies and cheese. Served with Simon’s spicy sauce, any empanada can be kicked up to another heat level. Three small tables provide seating, but this little snack shack focuses mainly on take-out with a multitude of to-go orders every day.
