Sun Fortune

Bustling Chinatown atmosphere in a south suburban shopping mall favoured by university crowd. The changing daily soup special is a wonder—each special is packed with luscious ingredients such as pork tenderloin and tentacles of dried squid. Barbequed duck is a must. Check the Cantonese-language chef’s suggestions and weekend specials card. Tue-Sat 11 am-10:30 pm, Sun 11 am-9:30 pm. Entrées: $10-$17. WA, LP. Cards: IA, MC, V.

Editorial Review

Reviewed in Oct/Nov '07 Issue of Ciao!

Barbequed duck is a common sight in windows of restaurants in Hong Kong, Taipei and mainland China. Of all Chinese restaurants in the city, Sun Fortune in Fort Garry has the most authentic Asian street vibe, aided by the golden-brown barbequed ducks hanging in the kitchen window. Duck only appears on the menu in a half portion, but know that the friendly staff can easily accommodate solo diners with smaller quarter portions. It comes chopped up in bite-sized pieces and served on a bed of rice. The crispy skin gives way to slightly sweet, super juicy meat. Pair this succulent bird with an order of mushroom egg drop soup for a meal straight from the streets of Hong Kong.
