Strap on a pair of skates, grab someone’s hand and glide around the Natrel rink at Harbourfront Centre. Canada’s largest artificially cooled outdoor ice rink overlooks Lake Ontario and stays chilled in temperatures up to 8°C. Midday shows bring five lively, beloved-by-all Robert Munsch tales to life at the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre For Young People in Love You Forever…And More Munsch! Theatrical retellings of The Paper Bag Princess and Murmel, Murmel, Murmel celebrate the exuberance of children and the push/pull relationship they have with the people closest to them. March 9 at 2 p.m., March 10 to 13 and 15 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., March 14 at 11 a.m., and more performances from March 17 onwards. At the Bata Shoe Museum, go Around the World in 5 Days: March Break in Toronto’s Coolest Shoebox! Expose your little princess to the royal treatment with Disney on Ice—Princess Classics at the Rogers Centre. The magic of this skating supershow begins as you enter the fantasy world of her favourite regal gals, such as Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Mulan and Snow White. At the Royal Ontario Museum, weekends are full of special events that will delight the whole family, like the Crystal Pied Piper Tours that lead you on a whirlwind musical gallery tour of the “seven wonders of the ROM.” Dino lovers can visit the recently opened Age of Dinosaurs galleries: dig for your own bones, and learn more about the albertosaurus (see “Get to Know a Dino .”). Stately historic site Casa Loma unleashes a themed week of Pirate Treasures: young buccaneers can follow costumed guides on a treasure hunt through the castle, check out the Jolly Roger’s crew in the “pirate’s cove,” watch Long John Strong juggle cannonballs, or catch a magic show in the library. Adults $12, seniors $7.50, youths (age 14 to 17) $7.50, children (age 4 to 13) $6.75; $1 to $2 surcharge to see the pirate baron magic show.

TIME TRAVEL
March 10 to 14

Revisit yesteryear by playing dress-up in period costume at Fort York National Historic Site. Kids can cook in an old-fashioned kitchen, listen to great stories and step like a soldier in March Through Time. Adults $5.94, kids and seniors $4.21, kids 3 and under free, family pass $19.81 (up to two adults and three kids).

ALL HAIL HOCKEY

At the Hockey Hall of Fame, you can visit the multi-million dollar NHL zone or a replica of the Montreal Canadiens dressing room. From March 10 to 14, hear “Tales of the Cup” about the Stanley Cup’s exotic and inspiring travels as told by Phil Pritchard, the official “Keeper of the Cup.” Adults $13, seniors and kids (age 4 to 13) $9, kids 3 and under free.
