For a 2+ day backpacking trip we recommend Skyline Trail that follows meadows, ridges and slopes at or above treeline for two thirds of its 44 km (27 mi). Ditch the tent and stay at Shovel Pass Lodge (877-852-7787) midway—they offer meals plus horseback riding and gear freighting by horse options. Park at Maligne Canyon and take the shuttle to Maligne Lake. Your car will be waiting at journey’s end. — JN
