Hot Dish: Meaty, Messy and Magnificent

Burger at Model Milk. Image courtesy Blair Hill.

Fresh-ground and cooked to your personal preference, the beefy burger at Model Milk is a thick fistful of meat. Topped with morels and cheese curds, it can be a challenge to keep this juicy burger from dripping on your shirt. But it’s worth the cleaning bill. 308 – 17 Ave SW, 403-265-7343. —John Gilchrist

Gallery Spotlight

For two decades Wallace Galleries has displayed paintings, sculpture and ceramics by renowned art world veterans as well as up and coming Canadian artists. The gallery’s high floor-to-ceiling front windows flood it with natural light, which is apropos for the outdoor theme of A Bush With Alberta, a collection of work by realist painter Bill Webb. This exhibition of the artist’s Alberta landscapes is on display Mar 17 – 18. A group show featuring new work by Wallace Galleries regulars such as Alain Attar, Kristine Paton and Herbert Siebner will be on display Apr 1 – 25. The exhibition will include a variety of painting styles as well as bronze works. 500 – 5 Ave SW.

The romantic pieces are festooned with carefully crafted gemstones. Browne’s collection includes simple pearl necklaces, $175, as well as earrings set with uncut diamonds, $375, and iridescent blue labradorite, $45–$85. Complimenting the pretty rocks is a selection of cashmere scarves and English sweaters. 805 – 1 St SW. —Allison Onyett

It’s All About the Label at the Naked Leaf Tea Shop

The Naked Leaf owner Jonathan Kane has filled his shop with a huge assortment of teas and tea paraphernalia like mugs and pots as well as tea-infused chocolates and skin products. We like the store’s limited-edition individual tea labels designed by local artists that are affixed to the shop’s 100-gram tea tins. The store can also customize these labels with photos and artwork as wedding mementos, corporate gifts and the like. 305 – 10 St NW. —Allison Onyett
