To mark the 25th anniversary of his Man in Motion World Tour (pictured), last August Canadian Paralympian Rick Hansen kicked off a cross-country relay in North America’s easternmost point, Cape Spear (Newfoundland and Labrador). The 12,000-km (7,450-mi) endeavour, which raised money for spinal cord injury research, is finally coming to an end, as the relay travels through various communities in British Columbia this month, finally reaching Vancouver May 21. Jann Arden, David Suzuki, David Foster, Sarah McLachlan and several more Canadian icons are helping Hansen celebrate, with a special concert May 22 at the Pacific Coliseum. Did you hear the one about the singer who was rejected for American Idol not once but twice, then went on to form a chart-busting band and net six Grammys? It’s not a joke—it’s what happened to Hillary Scott, frontwoman of Nashville-based trio Lady Antebellum, which brings a high-energy blend of infectious country-pop and polished harmonies to the Pacific Coliseum as part of the Own The Night 2012 World Tour (Mar. 19). The three-piece and their dynamite band crank up the Southern charm and belt out crowd-pleasing hits such as the sweet and soulful “American Honey” and the wistful ballad “Need You Now.”—Caitlin Dawson

Hot Entertainment: Pearl Jam

This band has staying power, which is music to fans’ ears. It’s been 20 years since Pearl Jam broke into the grunge scene, and since then the group has been praised as one of the most influential of the ’90s. Listen in at the Pacific Coliseum (Sep. 25) for tracks such as “Daughter” and “Alive” as Eddie Vedder and the boys celebrate two decades of hits, sold-out shows and world tours.—Jill Von Sprecken

PACIFIC COLISEUM

Figure skating was initially at the Summer Games, in 1908 and 1920. It found a new home at the Winter Games in 1924. Events include singles, which involves a short program of required moves and a longer, more creative, free skating program; pairs, in which one male and one female work together in lifts, throws, jumps and spins; and ice dance, which is similar to ballroom dancing.—Sheri Radford
