Unique works by local artist Frances Solar bring a bit of sparkle to your walls

One woman’s junk is another woman’s treasure—at least that’s true for Squamish artist Frances Solar, who experiments with unconventional materials to create interesting textiles. In her gleaming “Mini Supernova” (pictured), she manipulates stainless steel mesh, copper, bike parts and washers, altering them with heat and chemicals. In Lines of Engagement at Numen Gallery (to Jan. 2), three artists explore lines that are anything but ordinary. See acrylic paintings and collages by Eva Hoenig, wearable creations and light installations by Alice Philips, and encaustic paintings by Laurie Ann Melnychuk, including “Emotional Life of Lines: It’s Hard to Let Go” (pictured). New works by each artist will be introduced every month.—Kristina Urquhart
