Until Sept. 26: An exhibition highlighting Angela Grauerholz's career over the past two decades.
Until Sept. 19: Through works by the likes of Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, and many more, 'Pop Life: Art in a Material World' explores the complex dynamic between contemporary art, marketing, and mass media. The Gallery's big summer blockbuster will elaborate on Warhol's infamous theory that "good business is the best art" and show how many of the genre's artists have used both their art and artistic persona to create personal identities and "brands." Special events: Pop Kids: Daily from 10.30am to 12.30pm, gallery staff will supervise children ages six to 12 while parents explore the 'Pop Life' exhibition at their leisure. Children will explore a range of artworks through in-gallery activities. $15 per child (Maximum 15 children per session). Registration required, 613-998-8888 or sign up at the front ticket desk.
Oct. 6 to Jan. 9, 2011: 'Global Citizen: The Architecture of Moshe Safdie' explores the renowned architect’s buildings and the philosophy that shapes them, through an aesthetic of light, powerful geometry, and iconic forms. Special event: Oct. 8: Meet the architect behind the stunning National Gallery of Canada building. Moshe Safdie will discuss his 40 years in the field, followed by a Q&A. Free admission.
Oct. 22 to Jan. 16, 2011: Works by Carl Beam. This retrospective illuminates the artist’s investigations into Western and Indigenous culture and challenges the prevailing marginalization of contemporary Aboriginal art. This exhibit illustrates the wide range of his work, evident in everything from large-scale paintings, to ceramics, constructions, and videotapes. Special event: Oct. 22: Visit the exhibition with Greg Hill, Audain Curator of Indigenous Art at the gallery. Included with gallery admission. Nov. 14: Watch the film 'Carl Beam: Life, Art, Legacy' about the famed artist. Free admission.
Oct. 29 to Feb. 13, 2011: 'It Is What It Is,' an exhibition showcasing a selection of recent acquisitions from contemporary Canadian artists.
Special event: Nov. 5 and 6: Meet the artists featured in the exhibition 'It Is What It Is,' and listen to them discuss their work. Included with admission to the exhibition.
Dec. 2: 'Rembrandt’s sub-plots and diversions' is a lecture by Peter Parshall, Curator of Old Master Prints at the National Gallery of Art, Washington. $5; students and seniors: $4.
Gallery admission: $9; seniors and students: $7; youth (age 12 to 19): $4; children under 12: free; families: $18; Carleton University students: free. Admission varies for special exhibitions. Free admission (permanent collection only) Thursdays after 5pm. Free admission on June 6 (Doors Open Ottawa) and Canada Day. May 1 to Sept. 30: Open daily, 10am to 5pm; Thursday to 8pm. Oct. 1 to April 30: Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm; Thursday to 8pm.
