Permanent exhibitions include Innovation Canada, the Locomotive Hall, Canada in Space, and more. On exhibit: 'In Search of the Canadian Car,' examines what makes a car Canadian and how the national identity of a car is defined by its design, fabrication, and marketing. Ongoing: The museum's collection has been mined for treasures that help to tell the story of Canadian electric and electronic communications in 'Connexions.' Museum-goers can explore the evolution of communications through television, telephones, telecommunications, and broadcasting.
Sept. 18 to Jan. 3, 2011: 'Arresting Images: Mug Shots from the OPP Museum' explores 100 reproductions of criminal photo cards (mug shots), dating from 1886 to 1908, and learn the stories behind them.
Special events: Oct. 23 and 24: In honour of 'National Science and Technology Week' (Oct. 15 to 24), take part in exciting science experiments, make slime, and build a mini solar car that you can race down the museum's race track.
Nov. 5 and Dec. 3: Stargazing (free). December 4 and 5: Santa will talk to young visitors via amateur radio. Nov. 5, Nov. 26, and Dec. 21: Family Astronomy and Space workshops, complemented by a guided tour in the inflatable planetarium, a visit to the Canada in Space exhibition, or a visit to the Helen Sawyer Hogg Observatory (weather permitting).
Dec. 21: Celebrate the shortest day of the year with indoor and outdoor Winter Solstice activities for the whole family.
$9; seniors and students: $6; children four to 14: $4; children three and under: free; families: $20. May 1 to Sept. 6: Open daily, 9am to 5pm (including statutory holidays). Sept. 7 to May 1: Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm; closed Mondays except holidays.
