THE ROMANTIC GETAWAY
Day: Le Nordik is only 20 minutes from downtown, but it feels like another world. These Scandinavian baths are the height of luxury as you spend the day lazing with your loved one. Lie out in the sun, float in the pools, and take a eucalyptus steam to melt away your troubles.
Night: Stick around and relax in the hot tub as the sun goes down for some quality time together.
Eat: There’s plenty to nosh at the on-site restaurant, which has a new menu offering tapas, cheese platters, main courses, and a table d’hôte.
THE FAMILY ADVENTURE
Day: Bond with the kids as you hover in the treetops at Camp Fortune Aerial Experience zip line park, complete with rope bridges, suspended walkways, and net gangways.
Night: On Thursday and Friday evenings, the Children’s Museum is open until 8pm. Give your young ones a peek into other cultures with props, hands-on artifacts, costumes, and activities that promote interactive learning.
Eat: Pack the sandwiches, lemonade, and checkered blanket for a picnic at Major’s Hill Park, where there’s plenty of room to run around.
THE WILD WEEKEND
Day: Get primped and pampered for a night on the town. Men can live the high life at Holtz Spa with the Gentleman’s Total Rejuvenation package, while the ladies can unwind with the Tropical Escape package. Ah, serenity.
Night: Grab a pint and make your way to the dance floor at Heart and Crown in the ByWard Market, where live music plays every night. Get there by 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday to beat the line. (67 Clarence St., www.heartandcrown.ca)
Eat: After the pub closes, head down the street to Zak’s Diner, where you can chow down on poutine (that’s fries, gravy, and cheese curds).
THE BUSINESS TRIP
Day: Take a break from meetings and stretch your legs by the Rideau Canal. A pair of sneakers is all you need for a run along this man-made waterway where joggers, inline skaters, and bikers gravitate in the summer.
Night: Catch a show at the National Arts Centre. Whether you’re into music, dance, or theatre, top acts are always on the bill.
Eat: Whether socializing with colleagues or out on your own, Blue Cactus is the place to be. Grab a seat at the bar and enjoy the big screen TV and “Cactus Size” margaritas.
THE YOUNG ADULTS
Day: Shopaholics will love the Rideau Centre for big name stores, and the neighbouring ByWard Market for an eclectic mix of independent stores with one-of-a-kind pieces.
Night: Catch a movie at ByTowne Cinema complete with all the trappings of an old-fashioned theatre: red curtain, creaky plush seats, and classic, independent, and foreign films. They don’t make ’em like this anymore. (325 Rideau St., www.bytowne.ca)
Eat: A restaurant just for desserts? Amazing! Oh So Good offers 30 different types of cake and pie for about $7 each, while the atmosphere has a cool, coffeehouse vibe. (25 York St., 613-241-8028)
