NOVEMBER 16 TO FEBRUARY 9  Disheartened by the disposable nature of modern children’s toys, Milanese designer and dad Matteo Ragni decided to put the brakes on this transient trend by re-envisioning the toy car as something durable and meaningful. He sped ahead, recruiting 100 designers and challenging each one to create a unique vehicle out of a single cedar stump. Parked at the Design Exchange is an exhibition of these made-to-last models. Take some time to cruise through the many variations, including the Trojan Mustang, shaped like a running horse, or Tomoko Azumi’s “How Would You Like Your Toast?” car, a whimsy-mobile equipped to hold five slices of bread.  —Sara Burnside Menuck
