It’s difficult to think of a comfort food that’s simpler or more savoury than a grilled cheese sandwich. These Toronto shops serve up some of our favourites.
1 The new kid on the proverbial block, Cheesewerks has gained a following for its signature sandwich, which, err, sandwiches two-year-aged and double-smoked Balderson cheddars between cracked-peppercorn sourdough bread.
2 Kensington Market’s The Grilled Cheese
(66 Nassau St., 647-347-7062) features flavourful creations like the aptly named Dill-licious—a zingy bite with dill harvarti, sundried tomatoes and basil pesto.
3 Right at Eglinton station, The Construction Site (2200 Yonge St., 416-488-3473) makes it easy for subway riders to grab a quick and cheesy bite. For a sweeter option: the S’more offers melted marshmallow on graham cracker-crusted brioche.
