Ottawa theatre is in full swing this spring. Under the direction of Peter Pasyk, the Great Canadian Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Like Wolves. After 54 years of marriage, Vera and Sam return to their honeymoon destination to discover the once charming rural B&B has become corrupted by urban sprawl. From there, the vacation takes some strange turns.
Nancy Beatty, who plays Vera, is steady as the lead. She seamlessly moves from moments of serenity to insanity as the honeymoon trip falls apart in a matter of minutes. However, it’s John Koensgen, who plays Yuri, the boyfriend of Vera’s daughter Nina, who steals the show. His mix of wit and integrity turn his scenes into the play’s highlights.
Written by screenwriter, actress, and playwright Rosa Laborde, this dramatic black comedy about marriage, choices, and letting go takes you on the emotional ride of a middle-aged woman struggling with the direction her life has taken.
Like Wolves is on stage until June 23.
