•A short walk from the Halifax Common on Quinpool Road, Relish Gourmet Burgers includes a variety of burgers inspired by different people and places. Sample the restaurant’s signature burger, the Halifax Explosion, featuring a fresh-cut pineapple ring dusted in habanero powder topped with pancetta bacon and aged cheddar, and served with curried onion frites.

•Downtown on Argyle Street, Flipburger boasts some 10 signature burgers, plus house-made sauces and fresh-cut fries. The Blue Cheese and Bacon burger features fresh blue cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and local double-smoked bacon. Wash it down with an old-fashioned milkshake (try the Peanut Butter Banana Bacon flavour), a beer or a glass of wine.

•In Dartmouth, head over to Cheese Curds Gourmet Burgers and Poutinerie on Pleasant Street where chef Bill Pratt serves up a bevy of gourmet burgers, including pork, salmon, lamb, veggie and beef dressed any way you like. Give your taste buds a work out with the TNT Spicy Burger with jalapeno peppers and blackened beef.

See what the buzz is about at EnVie, a top-notch vegan eatery on the corner of Agricola and Charles streets in the North End. Restaurateurs Diandra Phipps and Cory Urquhart take vegan cuisine up a notch with a creative menu (that is 90 per cent gluten-free) that features many comfort food classics like eggs benedict, vegan ribs and an indulgent vegan grilled cheese, plus decadent vegan desserts. Try the raw chocolate torte with an almond-date crust.
