Hot Art: WAG Turns 100

Take a trip down memory lane in celebration of Canada’s oldest civic art gallery at The WAG Century. Winnipeg Art Gallery looks back over the past 100 years to commemorate the gallery’s evolution and significant contributions to the Canadian fine art scene. The WAG was established on December 16, 1912, when business in this city was booming and civic optimism was at an all-time high. This bold move helped to solidify Winnipeg’s reputation as cultural hub. See blueprints of the three different buildings that have housed the gallery and marvel at snapshots of WAG history, including Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, unveiling a commemorative plaque in 1974 (pictured).
