Into the Music was a personal evolution for owner Greg Tonn when it opened in 1987. Tonn’s early work experience was passionless before the music aficionado realized he wanted to work with vinyl and his community. To get the record turning, the brave dreamer sold his own collection of roughly 1,000 records. Due to the advancing technology of CDs, Greg had some apprehension, yet survived by remaining true to what his customers wanted: a consistent rotation of great music. The risk paid off. Today his shop is packed with more than 16,000 records and frequented by music connoisseurs walking in to show off hard to find records (it’s common to see Greg thrilled from a customers’ collection). His patrons, mostly die-hard collectors, relish in the integrity and richness of vinyl’s analogue sound. LPs hold a rank on par to art, where they are treasured intensely, displayed and handled with care — the same exact way Greg has been handling business with Winnipeggers for the last 25 years. 245 McDermot Ave, 287-8279.
