Gastown Steam Clock
Where Profile
The clock was built to cover a steam vent and is powered almost entirely by steam. The well-known timepiece is a favourite photo subject with visitors, who wait for the sounding of the Westminster chimes and the accompanying rush of steam to get the perfect shot. Ray Saunders, well-known inventor and clockmaker, unveiled his creation in 1977. Almost 5 m (16.9 ft) tall, it weighs a hefty two tons (year-round).
