Below the glacier headwall participants can step onto ice 400 years old and 300 m (1000 ft) thick. Guided Columbia Icefield Scenic Walk is a 2-hr educational trip along the retreating path of the Athabasca Glacier ($38, 6-15 $19; 9 am, 11 am, 2:30 pm, 5 pm, 7:30 pm; May 24-Sep 29, 2013).
