JULY 1 TO OCTOBER 10 The natural environment and the ways we interact with it have long informed the Canadian identity. No wonder, considering that much of the country’s nearly 10 million square kilometres remain sparsely inhabited. Play Nation, the latest show at the Design Exchange, celebrates the attachment Canadians have to the outdoors in a survey of historical and present-day sporting equipment, apparel, and related examples of graphic design. Looking at everything from Canada’s varied ecology to rich symbolism, the display explores how climate and geography have influenced the way we utilize gear such as kayaks and mukluks.
