Parker House is the kind of place where diners can experience high quality service, ambience and food, for a reasonable price tag. Set inside the historic 1911 Lougheed Building, the space has been completely renovated with mahogany pillars, Brazilian cherry wood floors, comfy leather chairs, and hand-blown glass chandeliers from a local studio. Chef Andrew Keen, known for his excellence in “forgotten fare,” has created a menu inspired by traditional New England comfort dishes with creative twists. On the menu are items like Monkfish “Chowda” wrapped in prosciutto with red peppers, potato, and herb cream; pasta with sugar-baked ham and peas; and a shrimp melt complete with provolone cheese, champagne, celery and tomato. Keen is also a supporter of incorporating local ingredients: diners can choose their cut of AAA, organic or Angus beef steaks from regional farms like Crystal Creek and Spring Creek Ranch.
For dinner, most entrees (with the exception of their steaks) sit in the mid-twenties range, while diners on a budget can try one of their thin-crust pizzas for as low as $12.88. Parker House Grill & Wine Bar, 131 – 6 Ave. SW, Calgary, AB 403.237.9585 www.parkerhouse.ca
