Four years ago, Canadians in red mittens overflowed with patriotic spirit during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. We queued for hours to zipline above Robson Street and to get into pavilions and LiveCity sites. We rooted for figure skater Joannie Rochette, who won bronze two days after her mother’s sudden death. We cheered for freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau, the first Canadian ever to win a gold medal on home soil. On the final day, we watched in agony as Team USA tied up the final hockey game with 24.4 seconds left on the clock; not long after, we poured out into the streets to celebrate our overtime win, thanks to Sidney Crosby’s “golden goal.”
Recapture some of that Olympic spirit Feb. 7 to 23 as Team Canada heads to Sochi to compete. Stop by The Bay to pick up Olympic gear, including a pair of the iconic red mittens, then head to a bar or pub to watch all the action.
Go Canada go!
