According to Jessica Kruger, “Anybody is capable of being beautiful.” The Coquitlam resident, who turns 22 this month, was 15 years old when she fell from a ladder and fractured four neck vertebrae. The resulting quadriplegia didn’t slow her down one bit: she’s travelled the world, and she’s currently completing an English degree at Simon Fraser University and playing wheelchair rugby five days a week.
A year ago, Kruger bested more than 400 other applicants to become the face of Something Sweet, a new fragrance from Lise Watier. During her time as beauty ambassador for the brand, she’s especially enjoyed being contacted by people with disabilities who are excited by her endeavours, “reinforcing that what I’m doing matters and that people care.” After her contract with Lise Watier ends next month, she’s not sure what to do next: “I like to accept whatever opportunities come my way.”
No matter what, Kruger maintains an optimistic attitude. She doesn’t view her accident as a traumatic event, explaining, “So many of the wonderful things in my life are because of the accident.” Sounds to us like a pretty sweet outlook on life.
