Dal Richards, Vancouver’s jazz legend
Age hasn’t slowed down Dal Richards. The big-band leader and saxophonist has performed at New Year’s Eve parties 78 years in a row, and his calendar is stuffed full of other gigs, including a daily stint at the 17-day Pacific National Exhibition each summer. On Jan. 13, the local legend teams up with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to celebrate his 95th birthday with swinging big-band standards at the Orpheum Theatre.—Sheri Radford
