If plane tickets to London aren’t quite within reach, Whistler is the next best place to experience the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games. You can watch all the action live and rock out to a line-up of top Canadian musicians at the Whistler Olympic Plaza, an open-air performance space and park surrounded by sweeping mountain views. The plaza was home to the nightly victory ceremonies and concerts during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The festivities kick off in the afternoon of Jul. 27, with the opening ceremonies broadcast live on huge screens in the plaza from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (PST). Just a few hours later, head back for a free concert by Vancouver singer-songwriter The Mocking Bird and Calgary-born indie rocker Wil. Also check out other well-known artists performing through the remainder of the Games and the rest of the summer during the Whistler Presents concert series:

  • Chantal Kreviazuk (Jul. 28)
  • Jason McCoy (Aug. 3)
  • Spirit of the West (Aug. 4)
  • Great Lake Swimmers (Aug. 5)
  • Vince Vaccaro Band and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings (Aug. 31)
  • The Boom Booms and Kytami (Sep. 1)
  • Emmanuel Jal (Sep. 2)

Don’t forget to visit Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Olympic Park, the other legacy venues from the 2010 Winter Games, to learn about Whistler’s Olympic history, take tours and pose for medal-worthy photo ops.
