Travel-Friendly Convertible Winter Coat for New Moms and Moms-to-Be

The M Coat can be worn as maternity outerwear and two ways pre- or post-pregnancy.

Splurging on a maternity coat can seem wasteful, prompting all sorts of makeshift winter wear and exposed-belly dilemmas. Not ideal—especially if you’re planning a “babymoon” this winter.

A wise investment, the convertible, Canadian-made M Coat can be worn pre-, during and post-pregancy. The built-in baby carrier makes it an especially great travel piece.

The three-in-one coat has a detachable panel that can be zipped on in one direction to accommodate a growing belly and in the opposite direction to create a cosy baby carrier. Post-pregnancy, remove the panel altogether and cinch in the waist. The polyester, goose-down coat ($385 from UpMama.com; see other retailers here) comes in a dozen colours and has a detachable, faux-fur-trimmed hood.

And maybe best of all for busy moms: it’s machine washable.
