W Hotels has hired a fashion director to help the chain partner with members of the industry on fashion shows and to forge relationships with up-and-coming designers who W would like to attend their events.
The new fashion director is New Yorker Jenné Lombardo, who is known in style circles for connecting M.A.C Cosmetics with Lady Gaga and creating an alternative to New York Fashion Week’s main venue, where up-and-coming designers can show for less. In a Wall Street Journal story, a W spokesperson defined Lombardo’s role as making W “more relevant in the fashion industry”.
Lombardo has already selected six designers for W to back for a show at New York Fashion Week; and there will be events in London, Moscow and Berlin. Currently W’s only Canadian hotel is in Montreal, which has its own Fashion Week (in February), so we’ll keep an eye out for anything cutting-edge Lombardo is cooking up there.
