Niagara’s Best Winter Wine Events

By Waheeda Harris

Like chocolate? Like wine? The perfect pairing can be discovered during the upcoming Days of Wine and Chocolate in Niagara on the Lake, held on weekends in February.

Wineries will pair favourite VQA vintages with more than 50,000 chocolates created by Chef Catherine O’Donnell of Willow Cakes & Pastries in Niagara Falls.

The annual Icewine Festival begins in a matter of days, running January 13–29 (weekends only). Events include tastings and seminars, icewine-based culinary creations in Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Icewine Village, and an icewine cocktail competition.

Passes and event tickets are available online from Wineries of Niagara on the Lake or by calling Tourism Niagara-on-the-Lake (905-468-1950).

Wineries will be holding individual events, too. Where we’re heading: Strewn, which will be whipping up icewine milkshakes (you heard us!) and Hillebrand, for a campfire cookout with icewine chili.
