Kingston, Ontario, is the most romantic city in Canada—or, at least, it’s home to the most Harlequin romance novel fans—according to data compiled by Amazon.ca naming the 20 most romantic cities across the country.
The online media marketplace’s (somewhat subjective) criteria for a romantic city were sales of romance novels, sex and relationship books, romantic comedy DVDs and—in an oddly specific choice—Michael Bublé CDs. (What, no Jason Mraz? No Al Green?)
Do these criteria make for a romantic city or just a city filled with hopeless romantics? You be the judge.
Some key findings from the data:
- Kamloops residents buy more Michael Bublé CDs than anyone else in Canada. Either they really love the BC-born Bublé or it’s really hard to find his CDs at the local Chapters.
- Victoria, which was Amazon.ca’s most romantic city last year, has apparently hit its quota of Jennifer Aniston movies and slipped to number 5.
- Canada’s four most populous cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa), either have Grinch hearts that are three times smaller than those of these smaller cities, or they are buying their Danielle Steele novels for their Kobo e-readers rather than from Amazon.ca.
Here’s the full list of the 20 cities that were the top consumers of romance-based media on Amazon.ca:
