Air Canada Strike Strands Passengers

By SHANNON KELLY

More than two dozen flights have been cancelled at Pearson International Airport in Toronto and more have been delayed following a “wildcat” strike last night by ground crew, affecting passengers heading to Canada and U.S. destinations. Toronto’s CP24 reported on Twitter (@CP24) that some flights are also cancelled and delayed at Montreal’s Trudeau Airport.

Wildcat strikes are organized without union authorization or advance notice. This is yet another setback for Air Canada, which has had numerous difficulties with labour unions in past weeks.

Last night, reports seemed positive that the strike wouldn’t last, but this morning flights continue to be cancelled and delayed and some passengers are being told to go home. The Toronto Star reported that more than 100 Air Canada flights had been affected by 7 am this morning.

Check Pearson’s Web site for a full list of cancellations and delays.
