Local artists are taking over! Some of the hottest items this season are to be found at local businesses, pop-up shops, and boutiques where products are made with quality materials and are so unique that you can guarantee your gift won’t be duplicated or re-gifted!

Shop AGA Holiday Shopping Party
Where: Shop AGA (Art Gallery of Alberta, 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square)
When: Thursday, November 29, 5 pm – 9 pm
About: Shop a variety of handmade and unique gift items like jewellery, housewares, toys, books, and quirky knick-knacks — and enjoy 20% off if you’re an Art Gallery of Alberta member. Receive complimentary gift wrapping on your purchases, then sit and relax with a cup of specialty hot chocolate in Zinc Restaurant.

124 St. Holiday Bazaar
Where: Roxy Theatre (10708-124 St.)
When: Thursday, November 29, 4 pm – 9 pm
About: Over thirty local vendors will have some of their top holiday products on display at this fun, contemporary market. Vendors include vintage clothing from Salgado Fenwick and Chaos and the Dark, vintage jewellery from Bang Bang Bijioux, delectable desserts and snacks from Cookie Love, artwork from Daffodil Gallery, and more — including many 124. St. favourites. Grab a hot or cold holiday beverage to begin your shopping endeavours while enjoying live entertainment. Admission is free, but donations to the Edmonton Food Bank are appreciated.

Where: Notables Stationary (12543-102 Ave.)
When: Thursday, November 29, 5 pm – 8 pm
About: Stock up on stocking stuffers and other great giftware at discounted prices and gift-with-purchase offers. Festive refreshments will also be served – nothing gets one in the holiday mood faster than delectable cookies!

Alberta Craft Council ‘Twas the Night Craft Show
When: Friday, November 30, 7 pm – 10 pm
Where: Alberta Craft Council (10186-106 St.)
About: This annual fundraiser provides a great opportunity to support local crafters and artisans while shopping for unique gifts for everyone on your list! Shop for items discounted up to 40 % off while listening to live music, sampling sweet treats, and sipping on wine and craft beer. Tickets are available in advance ($20) by calling 780-488-5900 or at the door ($25).

Tesoro Art Auction and Sale
When: Friday, November 30, 7 pm – 12 am
Where: Telus Centre, University of Alberta (111 St. and 87 Ave.)
About: Support Edmonton’s visual art community and pick up some gorgeous holiday gifts by bidding on art produced by students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design programs at the University of Alberta. This show will be a preview to the “Reset” exhibit at Harcourt House, which runs Jan 25 – Mar 1, 2013. Admission is free; cash or cheque only accepted for purchases.

Royal Bison Craft Fair
When: Saturday December 1, 10 am – 5 pm; Sunday December 2, 12 pm – 5 pm

Open Studio Designer and Artist Sale
When: Wednesday, December 5, 4 pm – 8 pm
Where: 3rd and 4th floors, Great West Saddlery Building (10137-104 St.)
About: These lofts, which serve as studios for local artists and designers, aren’t usually open to the public. However, they will transform into one of the most unique shopping destinations in the city for four hours during this shopping event, allowing locals to shop for exclusive handmade jewellery, art, and fashion.
