Paddock Wood Beer Pairing Pop-up Dinner at Urban Diner

Two trends in Edmonton as of late seem to be craft beer, and pop-up venues for shopping and dining. Tarquin Melnyk at Urban Diner South (8715-109 St.) is embracing both of these trends with an innovative dinner that incorporates craft beer into the pop-up dining experience.

An evening of good food and great beer awaits at Urban Diner on November 28 at 6 pm.

The Paddock Wood Beer Pairing Pop-up Dinner will be held on Wednesday, November 28 at 6 pm. Steve Cavan—owner, CEO, and brewmaster of Paddockwood Beer—is flying in from Saskatchewan to host this pop-up dinner, and will lend his beer savvy to Urban Diner’s expert chef as he prepares the food fresh that evening.

The sitting will consist of four courses, each paired with a different beer from Paddock Wood. Six different beers will also be used as ingredients in the four courses. Melnyk confides that, although the complete menu has not been finalized yet, the theme will likely be an “all day adventure” that takes the diner from breakfast to lunch to dinner and, finally, dessert – all in one sitting. He says that two tentative menu items are a  shrimp and crab cake benedict made with a Pilsner-infused hollandaise sauce, and a beer-infused gelato custom-made by Cravings Gelato.

Throughout the month of November, Urban Diner is featuring bottles of Paddockwood’s Bete Noire Oatmeal Stout. This brew will not be used as one of the pairings during the pop-up dinner, but can be ordered as an excellent accompaniment. The best sort of beer to enjoy on a cold winter day is most certainly a deep, hearty stout!

Also featured this evening will be a display of a collection of artifacts from the first brewery in Edmonton showcased by Grant Shepherd, whose family started the brewery. Beer connoisseurs and foodies alike will want to be sure to check out the unique flavours being served up at this fun dining experience.

Tickets for the four-course meal and four beers are $66, including taxes and gratuity. Tickets can be purchased in-person at Urban Diner South (8715-109 St.), over the phone at 780-721-9026, or by emailing General Manager Lorraine Manor at lorraine@themanorbistro.com.
