Happy October! The holiday season kicks off this long weekend with Thanksgiving, and one of the most wonderful things about the holidays are all of the yummy seasonal treats. Thanksgiving is no exception, and already pumpkin-flavored beverages and desserts have been popping up on coffee shop and restaurant menus.
For a unique seasonal dish, WHERE recommends trying Thanksgiving Poutine at La Poutine (8720-109 St., Garneau Area). On sale now through October 7 (EDIT: La Poutine has roasted an extra turkey and will continue to serve their special Thanksgiving Poutine until supplies last), this festive version of the familiar Canadian dish is a combination of sweet and savoury flavours. Fresh, hand-cut fries are mixed with gravy and “squeaky” cheese curds as usual, but a delicious blend of fresh-roasted turkey meat, stuffing, and cranberry sauce are added to the mix for a complete Thanksgiving meal in a bowl! Two serving sizes are available: $8.95 for Regular size or $10.50 for Large size. Additionally, La Poutine can customize this or most other of their poutine dishes to make it gluten-free or vegan.
La Poutine is open Mon – Sat 11 am – 10 pm; Sun 11 am – 8 pm. They will be closed on Thanksgiving day (Monday, October 8).
Looking for a unique Thanksgiving dessert option to try? Visit Crave Cupcakes (7929-104 St., 780-409-8486) and pick up a delicious single-serving Pumpkin or Bourbon Pecan pie. Or, try a Pumpkin Spice cupcake from Flirt Cupcakes (10158-82 Ave., 780-757-4899) for a flavourful blend of pumpkin, nutmeg, and cinnamon and delectable buttercream frosting. Don’t miss out on these seasonal sweets — you’ll be “thankful” you gave them a try!
