Girls’ Night Out: Smart Chicks Kick It Book Tour & Big Time Rush

Two family-friendly events are coming to Edmonton on Thursday, September 13 that are perfect for a teen (or tween) girls’ night out — but are appropriate for guests of all ages.

Chapters Westside hosts the Smart Chicks Kick It Book Tour, a multi-city, multi-author celebration of strong female characters in fiction. Edmonton is one of only three Canadian cities being visited during this literary tour, and it is the only city in Western Canada to host this event.

During the event, seven of today’s most popular YA fiction writers will talk about their books, answer questions from the audience, and sign their bestselling teen novels. The panel of authors includes Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Ally Condie, Charles de Lint, Beth Revis, Veronic Roth, and Margaret Stohl. Fans will delight in the opportunity to hear about the latest and upcoming releases from their favorite authors; even those unfamiliar with the authors will be treated to an evening of funny, interesting insights and get to learn about YA writing in general. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to find out about new books to read!

Live music, contests, and other activities will also take place during the free event. Guests may bring their own books to be signed by the author, though several titles will also be available to purchase the night of the event. This event will take place on Thursday, September 13 at Chapters Westside (9952-170th Street) starting at 6:00 pm. Tickets not required; admission is free.

Also in town will be the long-awaited Big Time Rush concert at Rexall Place. The popular boyband foursome, who star on the Nickelodeon television series Big Time Rush, will be headlining a night of pop-music fun with Cody Simpson, Tyler Medeiros, and Victoria Duffield opening the show. The band’s concerts have already garnered great reviews that praise the band for their catchy melodies, fun stage set-up, and engaging interaction with the audience. Tickets are still available for this event through Ticketmaster. Concert starts at 7:00pm.
