Long past are the days of stuffy craft shows overwhelmed by crochet and pinecones! This holiday season, shoppers will have plenty of opportunities to shop for unique handmade gifts at contemporary craft & art shows across the city.
A celebration of the handmade revolution kicks off on Wednesday, November 7 (7 pm – 11 pm) at The Common Restaurant and Louge (9910-109 St.) with “Green Drinks: Celebrating YEG Arts and Crafts”. This friendly, informal mixer allows locals to meet and mingle with individuals interested in sustainable, local initiatives with an emphasis on local shopping. Local artisans and crafters will be on hand to talk about their process and products; they will divulge do-it-yourself craft advice and offer cool and unique gift suggestions for everyone on your shopping list.
Starting at 9 pm, several vendors will have their wares for sale in a pop-up craft shopping opportunity. Not able to stay for the pop-up shop? Many of these artisans will be at holiday craft fairs throughout the season: Make It! (Nov 22 – 25, The Enjoy Centre in St. Albert), The Royal Bison Craft Fair (Dec 1 -2 Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre), and Butterdome Craft Sale (Dec 6 – 9, University of Alberta Butterdome Recreation Centre).
Come for a drink, socialize with local community members and artisans, enter to win some door prizes, and start some holiday shopping! A $5 donation is suggested for admission to this event.
