20 Ways to Ring in 2013

With 2012 drawing to a close, it’s time to start planning how you want to ring in the New Year! Whether you’re wanting the emphasis of the night to be on good food, unique drinks, or entertainment, we’ve scoped out 20 venues hosting fun New Year’s Eve events! Reservations are required for all ticketed events; please call to inquire about further details or to book tickets.

1. Churchill Square (780-442-5311)
When: 7 pm
Admission: Free
About:The biggest all-ages party in Edmonton takes place in front of city hall, featuring kids’ crafts and activities, magicians, balloon artists, face painters, horse and wagon rides, ice skating, food concessions, fireworks, and more. Live music entertainment will begin at 10 pm, including an energetic performance from Canadian country music group Hey Romeo! from 11:05 – 11:35 pm.

2. Fairmont Hotel MacDonald (10065-100 St., 780-429-6495)
When: 5:30 pm, 8:30 pm
Admission: $79 per person (First Seating), $139 per person (Second Seating)
About: Enjoy a gourmet New Year’s Eve dinner in the elegant setting of The Harvest Room. Two sittings are available; the first sitting will be a 3-course meal, the second sitting is a 6-course meal. Reservations are required.

3. Chef Parker Catering and Events (711-50 St., 780-293-4781)
When: 7 pm
Admission: $65 per adult
About: Make your last meal of 2012 a great one with a gourmet 4-course dinner prepared by renowned local chef Andrew Parker. Spend the evening in this relaxed, private adults-only venue enjoying live music, $4.25 drinks, and door prizes.

Admission: $215 per Adult
About: A night of exciting, non-stop entertainment is in store at Fort Edmonton’s “New Years Night Out”! Don your best formal wear and begin the evening with cocktails and a 5-course dinner in the elegant Selkirk Dining Room. From there, move in to “Shooters”, Al Capone’s favourite Chicago nightclub, and indulge in some gambling and an intense mystery theatre performance. After the high-stakes excitement, relax in the luxurious Capital Theatre to watching a screening of When Harry Met Sally. Then, just in time for the clock to strike 12, grab a glass of champagne in the Mahogany Bar to ring in 2013! Finally, spend a night in the Hotel Selkirk and then dine on a gourmet brunch the next morning.

Admission: $149 per person (ages 13+), $75 per child (ages 6 – 12)
About: Get out of the city and head to the beautiful Canadian Rockies in Jasper for the ultimate New Year’s Eve Party: A James Bond Celebration. Dress up in sleek Bond-worthy style, enjoy a delectable 5-course dinner while taking in stunning, over-the-top decorations, live music and a dance, custom champagne cocktails and ice-wine martinis, and live entertainment. An adults-only dinner and children-only celebration are also available; or, you can opt-out of dinner and attend the Countdown Celebrations — featuring live music and custom cocktails — starting at 10 pm for $30 per person.

About: Enjoy a fun evening of concerts and live music from local bands Shout Out Out Out Out, Renny Wilson, Wild Ways, and DJ Khotin.

Admission: $99 per person
About: Ring in the New Year with a delectable meal from WHERE Edmonton‘s Best New Restaurant of 2012! This 6-course meal includes delicious dishes like pheasant and black tiger prawns, and you can include wine pairings with each course for an additional $25 per person.

8. Mayfield Dinner Theatre (16615-109 Ave., 780-483-4051)
When: 6 pm
Admission: $165 per person; overnight room packages are available for an additional fee
About: Get dressed up and head out for dinner and a show at this elegant dinner theatre! Enjoy a delicious dinner buffet and appetizers, a performance of the much raved-about The Buddy Holly Story, party favours, and champagne at midnight.

Admission: $135 per adult (dinner and show); $55 (show only)
About: Get red-carpet-ready for their “Speakeasy” New Year’s Eve party featuring a gourmet set menu, stunning performances by dance troops, magicians, and dueling piano players.

Admission: $75 per person
About: Dress up and enjoy an evening of entertainment starting with live harness racing, a 3-course dinner, DJ and dancing, “Make a Deal” game show activities, and complimentary champagne at midnight.

12. Sherlock Holmes Pub (West Edmonton Mall location only, 8882-170 St., 780-426-7784)

Admission: No cover
About: If the world doesn’t end on December 21, as certain readings of the Myan calendar allege, then we’ll just have to worry about the Zombie Apocalypse. This pub is hosting an End-of-the-World Zombie party for New Year’s Eve, and costumes are encouraged! Enjoy food and drink specials all night long, as well as live music from local musical duo Alesha & Brendon.

13. Varscona Theatre (10329-83 Ave., 780-433-3399)
When: 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Admission: $25 per person
About: Before the official countdown begins, enjoy an evening of hilarious performances, impromptu amusements, “Celebrity Musical Chairs”, and live music.

14. Muttart Conservatory (9626-96A St., 780-442-5311)
Time: 10 am – 2 pm
Admission: $11.75 Adult; $10.60 Youth (13-17); $6.50 Child (2-12); $36.50 Family (2 adults and all children under 18)
About: Designed for families with young children who can’t stay awake long enough to ring in the new year, this family-friendly masquerade ball will feature crafts, music, games, and costume prizes.

15. Somerville Wine Room (10723-124 St., 780-454-9463)
When: 6:30 pm
Admission: $110 per adult
About: This “Champagne Gala” features hors douvres, a delectable seafood buffet, champagne, live jazz, and dancing.

16. On the Rocks (11740 Jasper Ave., 780-482-4767)
When: 7 pm
Admission: $50 (dinner and party); per adult; $25 (party only) per adult
About: Vancouver-based band The Boom Booms will be playing a live show at this always-energetic bar and live-music venue. Enjoy an evening of dinner, dancing, live music, and drink specials.

About: Lots of laughs are in store with performances by three stand-up comics to help you ring in the new year! Theo Von, from The Last Comic Standing, headlines the show.

About: Get an exclusive taste of a brand-new, surprise beer from local brewery Alley Kat — specially brewed for this event — paired with a 3-course meal, at this casual lounge.

20. Devaney’s Irish Pub (9013-88 Ave.)
When: 6 pm
Admission: $25 per Adult
About: Enjoy a relaxing night out at an authentic Irish Pub and ring in the new year with reserved seating, a delicious buffet, party favours, live music, and a complimentary cab ride home. $5 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.
