10 Unique Halloween Events (Oct 26 – 31)

If trick-or-treating or themed dance parties aren’t your thing, check out one of the many Halloween events happening in Edmonton this week that will still guarantee you a frighteningly good time! Whether you’re looking for something spooky or silly, there’s an event for everyone. Costumes are welcome and encouraged at all of these events!

1. Bluebird North: Halloween Blues
When: Wednesday, October 31 at 7 pm
Where: The Arden Theatre, 5 St. Anne Street, St. Albert

About: Five incredibly talented and well-known musicians will perform a series of eerie and hauntingly captivating blues, soul, and R&B music.

2. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
When: Wednesday, October 31 at 9:30 pm
Where: The Winspear Centre (4 Winston Churchill Square)

About: Watch the spooky classic silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari accompanied by an original score performed by Cameron Carpenter on the Davis Concert Organ. Come early to watch a montage of sci-fi and horror films and enjoy a delightfully frightful selection of alcoholic beverages.

3. Carnivale of Carnivores Masquerade
When: Saturday, October 27 at 6:30 pm
Where: Edmonton Valley Zoo (13315 Buena Vista Rd.)

About: This exquisite gala offers guests an enchanting gypsy village to explore while enjoying live dance performances, encounters and photos with some impressive birds of prey, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, fortune tellers, character actors, and a live auction.

4. Trick or Treat Festival
When: Wednesday, October 31 from 5 pm – 8 pm
Where: West Edmonton Mall (8882-170 St.) Centre Stage (Phase 1, Level 1, by The Bay)
Admission: FREE
About: Participants can pick up a candy bag and follow a “candy map” to find all the treat stops in West Edmonton Mall. Select retail stores will also be handing out candy to trick-or-treating children dressed in costumes.

5. Halloween Bands as Bands
When: Wednesday, October 31 at 7 pm
Where: The Starlite Room (10030-102 St.)
Admission: $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased at www.primeboxoffice.com
About: Local musicians will be dressing up as iconic music legends – like Led Zeppelin, Greenday, and Aerosmith – and performing in an epic battle of the bands. Dress up, enjoy the show, and enter to win some prizes throughout the night.

6. Halloween Theatre Sports
When: Friday, October 26 at 7:30 pm & 10 pm
Where: Citadel Theatre (9832-101A Ave.)

About: Enjoy some frightfully fun improv comedy, hosted by “Uncle Zombie” and his cast of Horror Heroes and Villains.

7. Ghost Tours
When: Oct 29 – 31 at 7 pm
Where: Strathcona area; meet at Walterdale Playhouse

About: Go for a guided walk throughout the historic Strathcona district and learn about some of the ghostly hauntings that are rumoured to exist — and maybe even experience an otherworldly sighting for yourself!

8. The Weir
When: Now through October 27 at 8 pm

About: This play revolves around a night of storytelling at a pub in Dublin that takes an unexpected twist with some seriously spooky results.

9. Halloween Movies at Metro Cinema
When: October 26 – 28
Where: Metro Cinema at Garneau Theatre (8712-109 St.)
Admission: $10 Adult; $8 Student; $6 Children under 12
About: Metro Cinema is showing a variety of films suited to the Halloween holiday: Bizarro: Blacula (Oct 26 at 11 pm), Halloweeniors (Oct 27 at 12 pm), Rocky Horror Picture Show (10/25/12 UPDATED: SOLD OUT), Ghostbusters (Oct 28 at 2 pm – FREE with a food or monetary donation to the Food Bank).

10. Halloween at Rutherford House
When: Friday, October 26 at 8:45 pm

About: This guided walk will be led by a professional medium, who will take you on a tour of the University of Alberta to learn about some suspicious happenings and ghosts rumoured to haunt the halls. After the tour, relax your nerves with some hot buttered rum, cider, candy apples, kettle corn, and gingerbread.
