Ready the visor hats and argyle socks—Calgary welcomes the 2013 PGA Champions Tour at the Shaw Charity Classic, a 54-hole stroke-play tournament. The competition runs August 26 through September 2 and features 81 professional golfers over the age of 50, all vying for their share of the event’s $2 million purse. The winner will walk away with $300,000 and 300 Charles Schwab Cup points.
This is the first time in 15 years that Calgary has hosted a PGA Champions Tour. “It’s been a long time since a golf tournament of this calibre visited Calgary,” says Champions Tour President Mike Stevens. “The Shaw Charity Classic will deliver exactly what this market deserves—an exciting event for the fans featuring the best players who have ever played the game of golf.”
The Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club hosts the tournament on its challenging, parkland-style course, which borders Fish Creek Park and provides excellent views of the Canadian Rockies.
